1. Find the active DNS manager
Check the nameservers set at the registrar. The active zone may be hosted at Kebecweb, the registrar or an external provider. Editing an unused DirectAdmin zone will not change public DNS responses.
2. Understand the main record types
A domain uses several records with different jobs:
- A maps a name to IPv4; AAAA is used for IPv6.
- CNAME aliases another hostname rather than an IP address.
- MX identifies incoming mail servers; TXT supports verification and settings such as SPF/DKIM.
3. Inspect the DirectAdmin zone
If DirectAdmin hosts the active zone, select the domain and open Account Manager → DNS Management. Record existing names, types, values and TTLs. Compare them only with parameters supplied for your service.
4. Plan a specific change
Keep previous values and define the required edit. Moving a website does not necessarily require changing MX. Preserve an external email provider’s records if that service continues. Avoid deleting the whole zone to start again.
5. Verify afterwards
Check DNS responses and test website and email separately. Caches can retain old values during the TTL; visitors may see changes at different times. Do not repeatedly edit records during that interval without identifying an actual mistake.
6. Ask for help
Provide the domain, target service and provider-supplied values. Confirm the plan before changing nameservers, certificate-related records or email routing. Passwords are not needed for a DNS check.
