Enable HTTPS with an SSL certificate in DirectAdmin

Request a certificate for the correct domain names and verify secure connections.

Contents and related articles

1. Check the domain

Confirm that the domain and names to protect point to the correct hosting. Note any proxy or CDN. A certificate must cover the names actually used; the main domain’s certificate does not automatically cover every subdomain.

2. Open certificate settings

Log in to DirectAdmin, select the domain and open Account Manager → SSL Certificates. If the menu or automatic request option is missing, ask support to check the configuration.

3. Request the certificate

Select automatic Let’s Encrypt issuance if offered. Choose only configured names such as example.ca and www.example.ca, then submit. Validation can fail because of DNS, domain access or CAA restrictions. Understand an existing certificate’s purpose before replacing it.

4. Check HTTPS before redirecting

Open each name over HTTPS and inspect the certificate. Then enable the domain’s HTTPS redirect, avoiding conflicting proxy or application rules. If a loop appears, have the different redirect layers reviewed.

5. Review WordPress and resources

Confirm HTTPS site addresses and inspect images, scripts and links. HTTP resources can cause mixed-content problems. URL changes must preserve serialised data; back up before changing the database.

6. Monitor renewal

Check expiry and the intended renewal process rather than assuming success. If warnings appear, give support the affected hostname and exact message. A certificate encrypts the connection; it does not establish that a website is malware-free.
